Sounds of South (SOS) is a multicultural outdoor event that celebrates the rich Afro, Latino, and Caribbean cultures through food, dance, and music. The annual festival is held at Turku Art House on the second Saturday of July. Our mission is to bring together enthusiasts of music, and dance to enjoy the atmosphere created by DJs and artists specializing in Afro-, Latino-, and Caribbean music genres. The festival also offer opportunities for up and coming artists to showcase their skills and gain visibility.

At SOS, attendees can enjoy African and South American food from local and international food vendors. The festival is rapidly becoming a place for people to meet and share ideas. The first and second editions attracted participants from Turku, other parts of Finland, and abroad (e.g., from Germany, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Ireland, and the USA). The theme was a fusion of traditional and modern cultures, reflected in the performances and entertainment throughout the festival.

In 2025, the festival will be a two-day event on July 11–12.  The event will be divided into three parts:

1. A street parade featuring cultural dances from over 10 different countries (July 11, 2025)

2. A family-friendly event offering educational entertainment that showcases traditional cultures from Africa, South America, and the Caribbean (July 11, 2025)

3. Modern culture in the form of music from talented DJs and artists. The day ends with an afterparty ( July 12, 2025).

The theme of the 2025 event is "Cultural spectrum". The audience will enjoy a lively cultural presentation combining traditional and modern music and dance.
